SPECTRUM OF EMOTION COLLECTION

The SPECTRUM Collection is a concept which came into the artist’s consciousness over three years ago. It first came as a vivid visual in her mind’s eye, with bold, minimalist colored paintings, all in a line. As time went on, the concept crystallized, with each painting representing the energy field of emotions we feel and transmit. After seeing another artist’s work depicting a very similar concept, she questioned whether to pursue this inspiration or to let it go, since it has “already been done”.

Creating this series was a personal challenge to trust that inner vision and the artistic process - the timing, the capacity of each artist to create something completely unique (even when creating from a similar idea) and that urge to create for no other reason but to take pleasure in the process.

As these paintings were created, the artist found herself experiencing a transmutation of the intense emotional “spectrum” she was experiencing on a daily basis. As emotions ebbed and flowed within, these paintings became an outlet to channel those bright, bold, contrasting, soft, sharp, vivid experiences into tangible form.

For her, the saturated, unified background represents the dominant emotional landscape, while the precise lines articulate those poignant feelings that pierce the moment, often unexpected and unpredictable. However, she encourages the viewer to trust their own inner reflections as they contemplate the paintings themselves.

The viewer may note the order is different from the commonly depicted order of colors (longest to shortest wavelengths) which naturally create the sequence: Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Violet. Instead, each color has been placed diametrically opposed to its corresponding color on the color wheel. Yellow with Violet, Orange with Blue, Red with Green. This provides a sense of harmony and balance where the spectrum of emotion can perpetually oscillate, instead of travelling from left to right into infinite oblivion.
